On your phone
Your notes, pinned lines, draft theory, comparison choices, poll choice and preferences stay on this phone. Note text is never uploaded. Clearing this site’s saved data removes them and access to your progress. There is no account or recovery service.
Reading alone does not register you as a player. Your first check, submission, vote or community action saves a private player code on this phone so we can recognise your progress. If your phone cannot save it, it lasts only while the page stays open.
The public site uses no cookies. A private preview can remember a reviewer’s chosen case day until they close their browser.
What we save
We save a protected version of your player code, contradictions found, submitted answers and scores, your latest vote, and activity such as pages opened, checks and shares. This supports progress, limits and group statistics.
Our app does not save your raw network address. It converts it to a protected code that changes each day to limit repeated attempts. Page visits before you start playing are counted separately. Afterwards, visits may be linked to your progress.
Activity reports contain broad source categories, file numbers and counts. They do not contain full referring web addresses, your notes or other text you have not chosen to submit.
What other players can see
Most statistics appear only after at least 100 people qualify. Your submitted answers stay private. If you solve the full case, you can choose a public nickname for the Case Closed wall. Your nickname, rank and solve day and time in London are then public. No email is required.
The wall, weekly goals and community lists can show smaller groups. A solve counts in group statistics even if you do not join the wall. A shared result with your wall position can be linked to your nickname. Avoid real names and personal details.
Invitations, squads & featured theories
An invitation link connects to your player profile. Opening one remembers the first valid invitation on your phone; it does not register you as a player. Your first successful contradiction check credits the friend who invited you. To prevent invitations from the same connection being counted, we keep a separate protected connection code with your profile until deletion.
Recruit counts, badges and detective names are public. Squads show members’ names, ranks, combined finds and number of solves. They do not show submitted answers or attempt counts. Shared links may connect to your recruiter name and chosen wall nickname.
If you offer a public theory and allow it to be shown in a video, we save up to 280 characters for review. Pending ideas are private. Selected ideas may appear here or in a video, without confirming whether they are right. You can replace the pending text or withdraw permission to delete it. Contact Tobias about a feature already published; copies others have made cannot be recalled.
Hosting & visit statistics
Vercel hosts the site and Neon stores player data. Their services process requests, including network addresses, under their own policies. Vercel may check activity to reduce automated abuse.
Optional visit statistics are off by default. If enabled, they use no cookies or advertising trackers. Link details that identify a shared result or file are removed before reporting visits, and game actions are not sent to this service.
Keeping & deleting data
We keep player activity, scores, votes, wall names, invitations, squads and submitted public theories until 90 days after the reveal. Tobias then deletes them, including private review copies. New activity stops being saved and community lists stop showing this data at that point. Notes on your phone remain until you clear them.
For access or deletion requests, email 1methodiq@gmail.com. Keep the phone you played on available so we can locate your progress. Never post your private player code publicly.
